Patented in Europe in 1982 and introduced to the United States in 1996, Endermologie® is a non-invasive body contouring treatment. It is performed by a trained technician who uses a device that combines a rolling process with variable and mobile external aspiration, or as Dr. Rasmussen commonly refers to the device as her “rolling and sucking machine”. Generally, 35 minute sessions are recommended. This continuing process improves blood flow, which in turn increases the delivery of oxygen and nutrients to the tissues. It also improves venous and lymphatic drainage, which allow for the removal of significant toxic and metabolic wastes from the tissues.
Although Endermologie® is FDA approved for the temporary reduction of the appearance of cellulite, Dr. Rasmussen also finds it extremely beneficial postoperatively in conjunction with standard surgical procedures such as liposuction and lipectomy (such as abdominoplasty). Even the results of postoperative facial cosmetic surgical procedures such as facelift , are enhanced with treatments. Visible scar tissue and contour irregularities, as well as persistent swelling or lymphedema are minimized by enhancing the resorption of stagnant blood and fluids within the tissues. Based on Dr. Rasmussen’s experience, treatments for postoperative patients are recommended twice weekly for 8 to 12 sessions.
Beyond the aesthetic benefits of Endermologie®, it has also been FDA approved to relax muscles locally, relieve muscle spasms, and relieve minor aches and pains. Some athletes are now using it as part of their training programs.
