GYNECOMASTIA/MALE BREAST REDUCTION
Male Breast Reduction corrects Gynecomastia, also known as over-developed male breast tissue, creating a flatter, firmer and more masculine chest contour.
Technique: Surgical removal of excess tissue by direct excision or with liposuction or a combination of the two. When the problem is secondary to excess glandular tissue, surgical excission is the procedure of choice. Where fatty tissue is the primary source of over-development, liposuction techniques remove fat to recontour the chest. Incisions hidden at the areola (dark pigmented skin surrounding the nipple), breast crease or in the underarm allow for removal of excess glandular tissue and recontouring. It can also include areola reduction.
This procedure is generally performed as an outpatient under local anesthesia with sedation, or general anesthesia may be recommended.
Male breast reduction may be performed in conjunction with liposuction to recontour other adjacent areas. Compression garments are often recommended for better results. Initial swelling dissipates in 2 to 4 weeks. Final result appears in 2 to 4 months. Continued fading of incision lines for 1 year. Significant weight gain can reverse results.
