Dr. Rasmussen

On A Personal Note

Born and raised in the Midwest, Jana Kim Rasmussen is a proud Jayhawk, having received both her Bachelors and Medical Degrees from the University of Kansas. She then earned the distinction of being the first woman to complete the five year General Surgery residency at Waterbury Hospital, a Yale Affiliate Program, before completing her Plastic Surgery training at Yale, New Haven, CT. She takes pride in being a “real” plastic surgeon, certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, and being a Fellow in the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Rasmussen has enjoyed private practice in Palm Beach county for over twenty years. Her registered trademark, “For A Woman’s Touch In Plastic Surgery® ,” is based on her work philosophy and office motto, “An educated patient is a happy patient!” This is reflected in her and her staff’s commitment to provide exceptional, individualized care that will improve the health and well being of her patients, both reconstructive and cosmetic.

Dr. Rasmussen is also a member of many national, state, and local professional organizations. Her service to community has gone far beyond her practice of medicine. Two major volunteer commitments are the Palm Beach County Medical Society, having served as its first woman President, and the Palm Beach County Chapter of the American Cancer Society, having recently completed her term as President. She has spent countless hours on boards and committees, furthering not only causes of these not-for-profit organizations, but also many others, particularly those committed to women’s issues or mentoring our youth.

But being a surgeon and a community leader does not define the “personality” of Dr. Rasmussen. Although she admits to being a perfectionist and driven, she strongly believes that one should have a balance in life to reduce the stress of daily activities, relationships, and professional commitments. Her mantra for personal fulfillment is “Work hard. Play hard.” So she maintains an active personal life, too. She is an exercise and fitness addict, and, of course, she enjoys the company of her family, including her husband of over thirty years and her two “children” (Abaco, a golden retriever and Foster, a yellow lab) as well as her close friends and neighbors. In addition to travel and exercise vacations, she particularly enjoys relaxing waterside, whether it be boating, beach walks, or hanging poolside.

Although she has won numerous professional awards and recognitions, Dr. Rasmussen considers her two most important accomplishments to be outside of business. One is running two marathons, her first at the 2002 Disney Marathon in Orlando, and her second marathon at the 2004 Marine Corps Marathon in Washington D.C. The other is her over thirty year marriage to her extraordinarily patient husband, Wes. Dr. Jana Rasmussen is truly an exemplary member of the Palm Beach County medical, business, and charitable community.
